RustRover is a newly introduced standalone IDE specifically designed for Rust by JetBrains. This development comes in response to frequent user requests for a dedicated Rust IDE, moving beyond the existing Rust plugin for IntelliJ IDEA and CLion. RustRover aims to elevate Rust support to new heights, offering robust functionality on par with other JetBrains IDEs.
During its Early Access Program (EAP), RustRover is available for free, allowing users to provide feedback and help shape the final product. The IDE will eventually transition to a commercial model, either as a standalone product or as part of the All Products Pack, with a planned release before September 2024.
The existing open-source Rust plugin will remain available but without new features or bug fixes, as JetBrains shifts focus to RustRover. While RustRover's functionality can currently be installed as a plugin in IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate and CLion during the preview period, future support for these plugins post-release remains uncertain.
JetBrains has also joined the Rust Foundation, underscoring their commitment to supporting and driving the future development of the Rust ecosystem and community.
