Rot is a command line (CLI) tool designed for modern sysadmins to manage cryptographic values securely and efficiently. It simplifies the process of generating and managing keys and secrets using current best encryption practices. Rot supports versioning and tracking of secrets, secure sharing among individuals through Shamir Secret Sharing, and rekeying encrypted values to adhere to the latest encryption standards.

The tool also allows for one-way encryption for zero-knowledge secrets, running commands and scripts with encrypted values via environment variables, and storing encrypted values securely in git with human-readable diffs. Additionally, Rot offers functionalities for generating and viewing X.509 certificates, JWTs, and SSH keys and certificates, as well as generating and verifying signatures.
