GoToSocial

GoToSocial is a lightweight, customizable ActivityPub social network server written in Golang. It offers a user-friendly, privacy-focused alternative to mainstream social media platforms, allowing users to post, read, and share content without being tracked or subjected to advertisements. The platform supports familiar social media interactions such as following users, making posts, and engaging with content through favorites, replies, and shares. Users can post various types of content, including long and short posts, as well as images.

Designed for small or single-user instances, GoToSocial is ideal for low-powered devices like single-board computers or repurposed old laptops. It emphasizes simplicity in installation and maintenance, coupled with robust security and practical default settings. Unlike Mastodon, GoToSocial is not intended for large-scale influencer usage but rather for personalized, non-addictive social media experiences shaped by individual interactions.

GoToSocial does not operate a flagship instance, preferring to focus on software improvement and decentralization. Users can set up their own instances on a server and connect with other Fediverse servers such as Mastodon and Misskey. The software is free and open-source, licensed under the GNU AGPL v3, with comprehensive documentation available for installation and configuration.
